The Margarita Meltdown has become one of the most anticipated festivals in Dallas during the Memorial Day weekend. Nearly 3,000 thirsty people descended upon Dallas’ Bishop Arts District on Sunday for the 3rd annual Dallas Margarita Meltdown, presented by Milagro Tequila. Thousands of drinks were mixed, poured and served, but only one margarita could be voted as the best.
In what turned out to be the closest vote in Margarita Meltdown history, Soleo Mexican Kitchen was voted the best margarita in Dallas and their bartenders were awarded the $1000 prize. Their ‘rita won by only three votes and was followed by last year’s winner, Whiskey Cake. Rounding out the top five were The Ranch, Asador and Mutts Canine Cantina.
Soleo Mexican Kitchen began as a food cart in 1997, and is now a full-service restaurant located at 8611 Hillcrest Ave.
The full rundown of winners (selected by the crowd via text) is as follows:
1st – Soleo Mexican Kitchen (won by 3 votes) 2nd – Whiskey Cake 3rd – Asador 4th – The Ranch 5th – Mutts Canine CantinaA portion of the proceeds will be given to La Voz del Anciano (The Voice of the Elderly), a local non-profit that helps serve the needs of the elderly Latino population in Dallas.
